There is a huge “ambition” for all primary school children in England to spend some time in school before summer holidays begin, Says the government’s updated Covid – 19 guidance.
Many parents are spectacle with sending their kids to school, I have had many parents sharing their views on social media and in person, this is what they have to say:
What parents thinks?
Gurmeet Singh said: “My child is not going back to school until it is fully safe for them, teachers and every staff member”.
Catherine Richards added “Many children are living in extended families or with high risk members. They practically cannot go back to school; this will simply put their family members at high risk”.
Louise crook said: Telling a child who is hardly 5 years of age “Don’t touch here, Don’t do this, Don’t hug your friends, I mean, the first thing they would want to do is give their friends and teachers a hug. Saying ‘No’ to them for everything will make them think they’re doing wrong by doing things that are natural for them”.
How schools will be arranged once open?
There are many view on this matter. The class size will be reduced to no more than 15 students. The numbers may be reduced further in certain school due to classroom size.
In addition to that many schools are sending out information to parents informing the ‘Rota system’. What this means is half the students from a class will be expected to attend school on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Tuesday etc. while the remaining of the class will attend on Tuesday, Thursday, Monday etc. This will allow opportunity for better social distancing in school.
Further to this, school day times will be rescheduled, the break times, lunch times, end of school times will be staggered and frequent hand washing will be introduced as a compulsory routine.
Having said this, Parents who choose to keep their children at home until the new academic year will not be faced fines. A petition is circulating around gives parents a choice whether to send their children back to school this term or not. Over 400,000 people have signed this online petition.
Many parents are considering home schooling for their children and are planning, preparing and collecting resources to aid the teaching and learning at home. Many are also keen to permanently remove their kids formally from school until situations are fully under control and it is safe for their kids to attend school.
What about Secondary schools
Secondary schools are most likely to remain closed until the new academic year. Schools and colleges are told to “prepare to begin some sort of face-to-face contact with year 10 and year 12 students who have key exams next year”. This is again open to discussions how schools will plan face-to-face contacts.
